Bauchi Govt To Revive Moribund Fertilizer Company

April 22, 2024

Bauchi State government has affirmed its determination to revive the ailing Bauchi Fertiliser Blending Company.   The board chairman of the company, Kefas Magaji disclosed the plans in an interview with journalists in Bauchi, yesterday.

He said Bauchi Fertiliser Blending Company produced about 1,200 bags of fertiliser in a test-run operation recently, a niche that raises prospects for a possible return to full production capacity soon.

Magaji said at full capacity, the company can serve not just immediate farmers in Bauchi but also other northern states.

While noting that, previously, unstable power supply brought the firm to its knees, the chairman said two generators have been procured to ensure stable power supply required for production.

Magaji added that he will also ensure that the company is reconnected to the national grid so that the generators will be on standby.

He promised to tackle these issues head-on, noting that there is a surplus of chemicals in stock since 2022, but cannot be utilized due to the unavailability of other essential components.

In 2021, Bauchi State government approved about N1bn loan facility for the fertilizer company. However, the company still remains moribund despite the capacity to produce about 60,000 tonnes of chemical fertiliser.
