Governor M. A. Abubakar says the state government will partner with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) to make unemployed youths in the state more productive. The Governor stated this today when he visited the Director General of the Agency Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Fantami.
Gov. Abubakar noted that information technology plays a vital role in developing the youths to be self reliant and productive members of the society. He restated his administration’s resolve to resuscitate the Bauchi State Commission for Youth and Women Agency for Rehabilitation and Development (BACYWARD) as well as the Orphans and Vulnerable Children Agency in an effort to reduce poverty to the bearest minimum. Governor Abubakar used the forum to solicit the support of the NITDA in addressing the current challenges facing the state in the areas of job creation and poverty alleviation. He stressed the significance of ICT knowledge to state and nation building.
Responding, the DG National Information Technology Development Agency Abuja Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Fantami expressed delight for the visit, describing it as the first time ever a sitting Governor visited the agency personaly. Alhaji Isa Ali Ibrahim Fantami advised Bauchi State government to establish a similar agency in the state that will coordinate the ICT activities and ensuring the full utilisation of its potentialitials. He added that the NITDA os willing to partner with the state in this regard.
The DG also challenged the Northern states to diversify their economy as a way out from the current economic recession and reduce over dependence on monthly allocation from the federal government. He also pledged to support the state in the 2017 digital job creation programme of the Federal government, as well as other scholarship and internship opportunities available.
Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Fantami commended Governor Abubakar’s transformation drive particularly in road construction in both rural and urban centers of the state, and his earnest desire to diversify the state economy.
